Opocno Castle and Zuzka's cottage (Gabi's sister)

Opocno Castle was referenced as far back as 1068.  The castle was destroyed and rebuilt a few times over its existence.  It was amazing to tour through.

View from the castle.

More doors.

Ethnographic Hall-lots of incredible items from around the world.  Collected by Colloredo- Mannsfeld one of the castle's last owners.

View looking back down the stairs.

Headed up to the rooms on the first floor.

Items in the first corridor.  These paintings and furnishings are from the 16th-19th centuries.

A view out the doors to the walkway across the second floor.  The building is U shaped.

St Anne's Chapel inside the castle.

Hanging over the edge looking down into the chapel itself.

I thought this was cool.  Also the inlays on the chest are elephant tusk.

Also in the study.

Another detail in the study.  Check out the decorative nature of these firearms.

Overall view of the study.

Sitting area in the men's bedroom.

Men's bedroom.  The furniture is from the Romantic Period.

This is an ashtray.

My dining room at the holiday season.......I wish!  This is the dining room though with HUGE portraits depicting representatives from the Habsburg dynasty.  Meissen porcelain and a massive Czech crystal fixture.

I am getting a little lost on my cheat sheet from the tour but I believe this is the representation room.  In 1812 Russian Tsar Alexander met here with Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III and the Austrian Chancellor Metternich to discuss the threat of Napoleon's Invasion.

This desk is also in the representation room.   There is a little cannon like thing on the desk that would be filled with a powder and when the sun came up it would heat up and ignite the powder and it would sound like a shot and that is how they knew it was time for lunch.

Looking back into the representation room.

Game room.

Looking down the hallway of the guest rooms.

Women's changing room.

Light fixture in one of the rooms.

I believe she said this was the gentleman that collected many of the items on display.

Inlaid design- elephant tusks.

Another cool chandelier.

Looking back down the hallway from the other end.

One view of the larger gallery room.

A wider view of that same room.  Amazing pieces hang in these galleries.

Ornate design on this chair.

View looking back in the gallery.  You can see the other smaller gallery in the background.

Old map of the area.

This is the oldest printed picture of Prague that they know of.

Oriental Armory

This drum was used by members of the Dong Sun culture during rainmaking ceremonies.  Its age is estimated to be 2000 years old.

Beautiful.

The spiked ones were used on pick pockets!

Hunting hall.  Crazy.

Weigh station and bear trap.

This was probably 8 inches long but reminded me of the scout knives.

22 tools in one, or something like that.  Still about 8-10 inches long at least.

Bed warmer.

Knight Hall

Ceiling in Knight Hall.

I think these were from the Hussite war.

Family tree painting started with the first person on the tree was born 1025 and the painter got through painting everyone through the 1700's before he died.  .

First name on the tree.

Samurai armor.

Swords used for beheading.  The ends were left blunt so they would be taken out to fight.  They were considered unclean.

Headed back to the car to go see Zuzka's cottage.  The castle was an amazing tour!
